Robert Hughes writes again about contemporary art.
There will be a renewed interest - not for everyone, of course, but for those who actually know and care about the issues - in slow art: art that takes time to develop on the retina and in the mind, that sees instant communication as the empty fraud it is, that relates strongly to its own traditions.
In the Art classroom (or computer suite), I have often said that like getting to know new music, getting to know a piece of art can take time. Sometimes it sneaks up on you, but most times the best art (and music) isn't the pop, instant pap but something that connects but often takes several looks (or plays) as a growing appreciation is achieved.
